Twenty Months Later...
Nearly two years down the line from my very first (& still solitary) blog post, when I nervously stepped out to the unknown, into the wonderful world of private cheffing, curious as to what the future would hold...
Believe me, I had all the best intentions to effortlessly write a string of lighthearted posts to document my transition, to expose my trials & triumphs, to openly share my journey, my discoveries, my emerging menu styles and yet here we are, with not one follow up post in sight, until today.
It's not a bad thing though, it means I've been busy ~ unexpectedly, diversely & beautifully busy.
Life can honestly be pretty hectic, I'm very lucky though, to have parents who are on call to take care of the little one, sometimes at a moments notice when the prep list gets a little too long or I get a last minute booking.
At times it feels like I'm not giving enough to Bobby or my partner, Stu or my family or my work... That its all starting to slide slightly, but then a moment of perspective is all that's needed because that's life, it's no different to anybody else trying to find balance.
It is a juggle and when the balls drop you just pick them right back up and start again.
The biggest lesson I've had to learn is to own what I do & be the face of my business.
For twenty five years I've been tucked away back of house, quite the introvert, head down immersed in my work, sole focus to create & cook.
Confident & protected because this was my area of expertise.
Now its sales & marketing, accounting, social media manager, web design, content creator, menu development, networker, host, chief cook & bottle washer.
I've discovered more diverse skills in the past two years than I have in the last two decades hiding out in my warmth of my kitchen and I absolutely love that.
I found this recently and I think its spot on ~
If you aim to be something you are not, you will always fail.
Aim to be you.
Aim to look & act & think like you.
Embrace you youness, endorse it, love it.
It's a far better mantra than 'Fake it til you make it' which incidentally I could never quite master...
So yes I'm eternally awkward & clumsy, people misinterpret my quiet demeanor for arrogance (naturally so for a chef I guess) but I'm also humble & love to play my part in creating moments & memories that linger through a mutual love of food.
I have so many adventures as a private chef to share, so if you've made it this far, thank you for sticking around, It means the world x
